2 Nights in Milton of Balgonie
Positive: We rented the Balgonie apartment and 2 double rooms, the Snug and the Brae, at the Balfour by Coorie Doon in Milton of Balgonie for 2 nights to attend and celebrate our daughter's wedding in nearby Balmalcolm.
The accommodation was perfect, very clean, comfy beds and a fair sized living room where we could all congregate. The cooking facilities were first class, we were cooking for 7 (and the occasional family members paying us a visit) and we managed to create a couple of large lasagne with salad and garlic bread for everyone. The iron and ironing board in the utility room was an absolute lifesaver for a couple of teenagers with very wrinkly shirts and a dad with kilt which needed the pleats freshened up! There's a washing machine and clothes horse in there for folks staying a bit longer.
The apartment has a double room but there's also a bed sofa in the living room which could easily accommodate 2 adults. Our son reports that it was very comfy and he slept well.
The 2 double rooms both had ensuite bathrooms with showers and coffee and tea making facilities. Again, the accommodation was first class and the beds were comfy.
We had a handful of smokers in the group and when it was raining (it's Scotland!) there was a very welcome, large, spacious, and covered, smoking area.
There are numerous supermarkets less than 10 minutes away in Glenrothes and don't miss out on a trip to Markinch where you can buy some Fisher and Donaldson Fudge Doughnuts (the best in Scotland) from Greens! Yummy!!
We had a great stay and everyone appreciated and enjoyed the accomodation
There's a bus service that runs right past the front of the car park for those using public transport.
Negative: The village is very quiet and feels much more remote than it actually is. We had a handful of smokers in our group and the stairs are a bit squeaky, the doors 'bang' shut if you don't gently restrain them as they close. This isn't great for other guests and I'm sure we disturbed at least one couple who were there at the same time as we were.We also had a neighbour hanging over the fence next to the smoking area, frostily enquiring how long we were staying for.
Finally, loved the remote entry system, but remembering the codes for 3 rooms after a wedding which had toasts every five minutes during the meal proved challenging for a few of our group. 😅
